The Historic Hoover Theatre is the venue for this new play about Father Joe Devlin, a Bay Area native who worked at Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara. “Cha Joe” tells the story of Father Joe’s heroic service, aided by his brother Father Ray, to the Vietnamese people during the war years in the early 1970s. When the war ended and U.S. troops pulled out, Father Joe remained behind to work with refugees, helping many of them flee Vietnam and start new lives in the U.S. and other countries. A number of them now live in Silicon Valley, raising families and running successful businesses.
